187 – Selected solutions to problems from Chapter 1

Professor Warren Esty, one of the authors of our main textbook, has made available a list of solutions to some of the problems from Chapter 1. They are most of the odd numbered problems. Please let him (or me) know if you find errors or typos, or if you have suggestions for alternative solutions or different approaches.

  1. Blake says:

1.2 B 51 has a typo. The solution states the following:
B51. The second is always true, the second is not.

This in itself is a contradiction.

  2. Hi Blake. Yes, thanks. The right solution should read “The second is always true, the first is not.”

  3. Recall also that there is a typo in 1.2.A21.a). The solution states that the complement is (-3,\infty). The right answer is (-\infty,3]. (Spotted by David.)
